Tuyuc privacy notice
Last updated: 3 November 2026
In short
- You don’t need to create an account or give us your name or email to use Tuyuc.
- Your location is used only if you allow it and while you use the app. It is stored only if you record a visit in your passport: where you were when you recorded it.
- If you use the assistant or the passport, we keep your questions and its answers, and your visits, stamps and points, with an anonymous identifier for your installation. Google processes the questions to write the answers.
- On the tuyuc.mx website, and only if you accept, we use Google Analytics to count visitors and see which pages they read. The app uses no analytics.
- We show no ads, sell no data and do not track you across other apps.
Who is responsible for your data
Tuyuc is an app by Compañía Tipográfica Yucateca, S.A. de C.V., a Grupo Megamedia company, at calle 62 No. 518 interior, between 65 and 67, colonia Centro, C.P. 97000, Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico.
This notice covers what the Tuyuc app does in particular and complements Grupo Megamedia’s privacy notice (in Spanish), which applies to all its products. Where this notice is more specific than the general one, this one governs Tuyuc. The Spanish version of this notice is the authoritative one.
What data the app uses, and why
Your location
If you allow it, the app reads your phone’s precise location only while you use it, to center the map on you and list the nearest destinations first. To sort them, it sends your coordinates to our server with that request; the server answers and does not store them or link them to you.
If you tap “Registrar visita” on a place, the app checks that you stay within 50 metres of it for one minute: while that place’s page is open, it sends your location to our server every 10 seconds. For a recorded visit we keep the place, the date and where you were when you recorded it, for as long as you keep your passport. The app never records a visit on its own.
If you don’t allow it, the app works just the same: the map opens over the peninsula and you can explore it by hand. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your phone’s settings.
The assistant
The first time you open the assistant, the app explains that your questions are sent to Google and asks you to accept before anything is sent. If you accept, it creates a random identifier on your phone, stored encrypted, which contains nothing about you or your device. We use it to recognise your conversations and apply the daily limit on questions.
We keep the text of your questions and answers, their date and which texts from the guide were used, for 6 months; an identifier unused for 6 months is deleted with its conversations. Only usage totals, with no text, are kept for the service reports. Please don’t write personal data in the assistant: it doesn’t need any to answer. If you report an answer, we also keep the reason you choose and the date.
You can delete the identifier, your conversations and your passport at any time from “Acerca de” → “Borrar mis datos”. On iPhone the identifier can survive uninstalling the app, so delete it there first.
The passport
The first time you open the passport or record a visit, the app uses the same anonymous identifier to keep your recorded visits (place, date, where you were and the points), your stamps, points and level, so it can show you your passport. A copy stays on your phone so it opens without signal. They are kept while you use the app; an identifier unused for 6 months is deleted with everything linked to it, and “Borrar mis datos” deletes it all at once.
Technical connection data
When the app downloads content, the map or photographs, our servers log the IP address it connects from, the time and the address requested. We use them only to keep the service running and protect it from abuse, and keep them for a limited period.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, it sends a technical report so we can fix it: the phone model, the operating system and app versions, and the details of the error. These reports do not include your name, your email or your location.
What stays on your phone
The downloaded map, the entries and the photographs you have already seen are kept on your phone so the app works without signal. They never leave your device, and are deleted when you uninstall the app.
No accounts
Tuyuc has no sign-up and no sign-in: it never asks for your name, email or phone number.
What we don’t do
- We do not ask for or collect sensitive personal data.
- We do not use your data for advertising or to build profiles.
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not use your data for secondary purposes, except measuring visits to the tuyuc.mx website with Google Analytics, and only if you accept it.
- Tuyuc is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from minors.
- The app’s features that use artificial intelligence services through the Gemini API are restricted to people over 18, in accordance with the terms that apply to that service.
Who it is shared with
Only with the providers we need to run the service, who process the data on our behalf and may not use it for their own purposes:
- Hosting and content delivery, where our servers run and their logs are kept.
- Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., United States), which receives crash reports.
- Zoho Corporation (United States), through its ZeptoMail service, which sends the service’s emails, such as password resets, editorial team invitations and reports on assistant answers, which carry the reported question and answer.
- Google LLC (United States), through its Gemini service, which writes the assistant’s answers from your question, the earlier messages of the conversation and texts from the guide. Google does not receive your location or your installation’s identifier, and does not use this data to train its models or for its own purposes.
- Google LLC (United States), through Google Analytics, which measures use of the tuyuc.mx website, only if you accept. It is set up not to share data with other Google products, with no advertising features or Google signals, and not linked to Google accounts.
Some of these providers are outside Mexico, so technical data may be transferred to other countries for that sole purpose. Beyond that, we will only share data when a competent authority requires it under the law.
This website
tuyuc.mx uses Google Analytics only if you accept analytics cookies in the banner the site shows on your first visit. If you decline or don’t choose, it is not loaded. The app does not use Google Analytics.
With your consent, Google Analytics records the pages you visit and for how long, the page or search engine you came from, the app store links you tap, your type of device, browser, language, and approximate city and country, derived from your IP address, which Google Analytics does not store. We only see aggregate figures, never an individual, and use them to learn how many people visit the site and whether it helps them find the app. Google Analytics keeps this data for 14 months.
It sets two cookies on tuyuc.mx, _ga and _ga_<id>, which hold a random identifier to count repeat visits from the same browser and last up to 2 years. The site also remembers your choice in your browser so it doesn’t ask again. You can change it at any time from “Cookie preferences” at the foot of every page, or delete the cookies in your browser’s settings.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify and cancel your personal data or object to its use (ARCO rights), and to withdraw your consent, under Mexico’s Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties. To exercise them, write to [email protected] following the procedure in the general notice.
If you don’t use the assistant or the passport, we normally hold no data that identifies you. If you do, tell us the approximate date and the text of one of your questions, or a place you visited, so we can find your data. For questions about the app, write to [email protected] or visit support.
Changes to this notice
If a new version of the app uses data this notice does not describe, we will update it here before releasing that version and change the date above.
